Dr. Choe Gawon of Sandol Korean Medicine Clinic has been invited as a Korean speaker at the 2026 International Acupotomy Congress and will lecture on the morning of Sunday, November 15.
A 10th anniversary — ‘Ten Years of Acupotomy, to the World and the Future’
The congress is held to mark the 10th anniversary of the Korean Acupotomy Medicine Society, under the theme ‘Ten Years of Acupotomy, to the World and the Future.’ It runs over two days, Saturday Nov 14 to Sunday Nov 15, 2026, at Namsan Hall on the 3rd floor of the Main Building of Dongguk University. It is supported by the Society of Korean Medicine and the Association of Korean Medicine, and attendance carries 4 continuing-education credits.
An international stage with scholars from China and Taiwan
This year's congress also welcomes scholars from abroad. Invited speakers include a specially-appointed professor from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine — a founder of needle-scalpel and Chinese musculoskeletal needling — and, from Taiwan, the honorary chair of the Taiwan Facial Acupuncture Society and a dually-licensed physician (Chinese and Western medicine) holding a doctorate in medicine. Korean speakers, led by the president of the Korean Acupotomy Medicine Society, guide the lectures and hands-on sessions across the two days.
Dr. Choe Gawon shares experience with newly textbook-listed adhesion-release techniques
On the second day, Sunday November 15 from 10:40 to 12:00, Dr. Choe Gawon (specialist in acupuncture & moxibustion medicine) lectures on ‘The practice of acupotomy adhesion release — linear and conical techniques.’ Acupotomy medicine uses the acupotome (鍼刀) — a tool designed to combine the strengths of the acupuncture needle of Korean medicine and the scalpel of Western medicine — to gently release adhered soft tissue and restore pain-signal pathways. In this lecture, Dr. Choe shares the procedures for the conical and linear adhesion-release techniques newly listed in the 2026 acupuncture & moxibustion medicine textbook, together with a range of clinical cases, with his fellow clinicians.
Acupotomy grows more precise alongside ultrasound
The second day continues with lectures on precise techniques including ultrasound-guided acupotomy, reflecting how acupotomy medicine is raising its safety and precision as it integrates with ultrasound imaging. Dr. Choe has built broad clinical experience centered on pain treatment with acupotomy and thread-embedding, extending to TMJ balancing medicine and integrative cancer care, and shares that experience on this international academic stage.
